Upstart Poet Launches Debut Poetry Collection 'Mirror'

In April 2017, creatives and Cape Town community members gathered at the Applauz Arts Initiative studio in Woodstock for the launch of Gerald Edwards' poetry collection titled Mirror.

Mirror is a collection of self-published poetry which Gerald had been circulating on his 'Upstart Poet' Facebook page since 2012.

The program for the day included a warm introduction by host Natalia Da Rocha, with a key-note speech by Lyrice Trussel, poetry readings of Gerald's poetry by Michelle Mullins with musical accompaniments by

Garth Engelbrecht as well as entertainment areas for book signings and friendly conversation.

Gerald's poetry is authentic. Sometimes he leaves you with a chuckle, sometimes he leaves you with a lesson. To order your own copy of Mirror for R200, e-mail Gerald at: upstartpoet@gmail.com

Upstart Poet friends share their experiences at the launch:

Laverne Schwimmbacher (Author of Pathways of Inspiration): “Mr Upstart Poet, I'm very proud of you. I'm so pleased you've done as I did almost a year ago – publishing your first book! It's a wonderful feeling, isn't it just? Keep sharing your poetry and keep writing. I always say, if a poem can touch and make a difference in just one person's life, then it's certainly a poem worth sharing. Your poetry covers so many aspects of life and touches on beauty, raw truth, pain, love and everything in between. Bless you, my brother in poetry!

Keynote speech by Lyrice Trussel

Lyrice Trussell: “Simplicity was the order of the day, just like I know Gerald. No fuss, no frills, no fanfare - just people who love Gerald poetry and poetry in general. How lucky can any one person be to have your personal copy of Mirror signed by the Upstart Poet himself? Congratulations and well done bra, you've come a long way! What an achievement, uber proud of you!”

Sonja Ray: “Gerald's poetry is like words that weave their way straight to your soul, and like threads of light through the trees. I'm very happy to own my personal copy of Mirror!”
