Afrikaaps is a storytelling production about language and historical reclaim. It tells stories of identity which are overshadowed by dominant groups during the colonial and post-colonial periods. The voices in the show are authentic and unapologetic, and gives you new feeling for language and identity. The show ran at theatres and festivals in the Western Cape and in the Netherlands, and was scripted by most of its cast: Quintin Goliath (Jitsvinger), Moenier Adams, Janine van Rooy-Overmeyer (Blaq Pearl), Jethro Louw, Charl van der Westhuizen, Emile Jansen as well as Netherlands collaborators Akwasi Ansah & DEF P. The show was directed by Catherine Henegan, with musical direction from Kyle Shepherd and Shane Cooper. Drama turge was provided by Aryan Kaganof and Design by Jantjie Geldof and Catherine Henegan. Gerald reciting poem titled 'Mirror'  In April 2017, creatives and Cape Town community members gathered at the Applauz Arts Initiative studio in Woodstock for the launch of Gerald Edwards' poetry collection titled  Mirror. Mirror   is a collection of self-published poetry which Gerald had been circulating on his 'Upstart Poet' Facebook page since 2012.  The program for the day included a warm introduction by host Natalia Da Rocha, with a key-note speech by Lyrice Trussel, poetry readings of Gerald's poetry by Michelle Mullins with musical accompaniments by  Garth Engelbrecht as well as entertainment areas for book signings and friendly conversation.  Natalia Da Rocha - host Gerald's poetry is authentic. The Blaq Pearl Foundation presents Krotoa Van Vandag , a stage production that tells the story about Robin, a young girl searching for identity amidst the social ills of the Cape Flats, and who finds wisdom in the stories of Krotoa which she learns about through her grandmother. Krotoa was a Khoi-khoi woman who lived in Cape Town during South Africa's pre-colonial era. Approxiamately 340 years since her passing, Krotoa's challenges still resonate with the lives of women in Cape Town today.   The Krotoa Van Vandag Production Schools Tour intends to travel to schools around the country and instill self-knowledge and hope among young people through edutainment, history and storytelling. Mitchell ' s Plain will be buzzing next weekend as visitors, cyclists, creatives, exhibitors and vendors galore take  to  the streets at Open Streets Mitchell's Plain –  Sunday 2 April  from  12pm to 5pm !  Open Streets is a citizen-driven initiative which aims to change the way citizens and residents experience the streets of Cape Town. Since its establishment in 2013, Open Streets has been hosted in Observatory, Bellville, Langa, Mitchell's Plain and the Cape Town city centre. The Open Streets team is also working in partnership with the City of Cape Town’s Transport & Urban Development Authority (TDA) to establish a regular Open Streets programme across the city where everyone is invited to participated and explore the streets on foot, bicycle, skateboard or any other non-motorised form of mobility – free of charge! On Saturday 8 th   October, music-lovers from all over the world gathered at the Gwangju International Centre to enjoy the third installment of  Synergy  featuring performance artists from Gwangju, South Korea. The Gwangju Art Class invites YOU to come along this weekend to INK & FLOW – a night of artistic appreciation of visual artists in South Korea! This event will take place on Saturday 15 th October at the Gwangju International Centre (Gwangju City, Jeollanamdo), from 18h30 to 22h00. The program for the evening will include an art contest, free beverages and snacks (until it runs out!), an ink-art table and art wall for guest participation, live musical performances as well as a cake sale and raffle. All proceeds will go towards funding materials for the Gwangju Art Class and to the Gwangju International Centre, and raffle and prize winners will be announced at 9pm.
