Cape Town - Come and See 'Stof Rooi' This Week at the City Hall Auditorium!

As part of the 2016 Cape Town Fringe Festival, the Kleisand Theatre and Theatre Arts Admin Collective presents Stof Rooi , a grappling dance piece performed by Dustin Beck which explores the conflicts of language and identity associated with the ancestry and present-day reality of a young boy in the Northern Cape. Stof Rooi is directed by Jason Jacobs, who was born and bred in the Northern Cape. Jason is a seasoned actor, poet and director who was the winner of the Emerging Theatre Directors Bursary for 2016 as well as a nominee for the Fleur Du Cap ROSALIE VAN DER GUCHT PRIZE FOR NEW DIRECTORS. Following a successful run at the KKNK (Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefess), the Obs Family Festival and Uitkampteatre, Stof Rooi will run over a 5-day period at the Cape Town City Hall auditorium: Thursday 29 th and Friday 30 th September (18h30 – 19h10), Saturday 1 October (22h30 – 23h10), Sunday 2 October (18h30 – 19h10) and Monday 3 rd October (20h30 – 21h10). Clive Ridgway is a South African musician and singer-songwriter of 70s-born country-rock band 'Rocking Horse'. He is also the founder and teacher at the Cape Town School of SONGWRITING, and is the author of a songwriters' guide 'Crack The Songwriting Code'. Clive is also the Program Director of one of the Mother City's newest and most well-loved radio station, Smile 90.4FM, and is a loving husband and father of 3 children, 2 boys and a girl. WITS-Borne Playwright Wins Big with SAfm!

Congratulations to Neo Sibiya for winning  R20 000 in a playwriting competition with SAfm this year! Neo just completed a BA Honours program in Performing and Visual Arts at WITS University in Johannesburg, where she majored in Performance (Acting) and Television Studies. Her radio play titled ‘Trains of Thought’ was aired on SAfm on 11 July 2015, as a reward for ranking 3 rd in the competition. An esteemed panel of radio and drama experts, such as Shado Twala and Jerry Mofokeng, judged over 300 entries and chose the top 3 plays which were professionally recorded and broadcast on SAfm as part of the prize.   This competition formed part of a search for works of fiction to fill up the 7pm Saturday drama slot on air, as well as to bring drama back to the medium of radio. Share the Fruit, Share the Music – the Fruit Vendor Takes Us Through a Journey of his Musical Produce!

Born in Johannesburg, Fruit Vendor is a well-known musical act in the Mother City whose presence is characterized by original sing-a-long tunes that creatively combines rap, comedy and ‘real-life’ topics. He has shared the stage with many well-acclaimed artists and musicians this year. At the recent Cape Town Folk ‘n Acoustic Music Festival, he was singled out by David Kramer as having a “fresh sound” and was praised for his use of audience interaction (yes, we can relate to this one ‘coz we love it when he asks us to sing along to “aaaaaaah, aaaaaaaaah… a real real job!”). His debut EP entitled “Giants” is currently in production.
